The Digicel Foundation
 

The Digicel Foundation, which operates in four counties: Haiti, Jamaica, Papua New Guinea and Trinidad and Tobago, is a non-profit organization that distributes and utilizes funds on a charitable basis for the sole purpose of building communities and community spirit in its respective countries. The foundations projects involves a wide range of school and sports projects, as well as well as providing some J$200 million in assistance after Hurricane Ivan devastated many of the islands, especially Grenada and the Cayman Islands.

The Digicel Foundation strives to ensure that communities are healthy, primarily through the support of Community based and driven activities which should embrace social, cultural and particularly educational objectives.


Caring Connections


Digicel's Caring Connections is also a corporate responsibility program established in 2004 with the purpose of strengthening Caribbean communities by addressing education, youth, social and cultural needs. The Caring Connections program 
is being done in collaboration with like-minded social partners in special education, special needs, etc.  It aims to empower communities to conceptualize and execute projects focused on the youth and the community.  





Sponsorships

Digicel is the lead sponsor of Caribbean, Central American and Pacific sports teams, including the Special Olympics teams throughout these regions. Digicel sponsors the West Indies cricket team and is also the title sponsor of the Digicel Caribbean Cup.  The company also sponsors local main events on the islands, for example in St. Lucia,  it’s the lead sponsor of like St. Lucia Jazz, Carnival, Sports Clubs, etc.


Disaster Preparedness

Hurricane season in the Caribbean officially begins in June and typically lasts through to November, with many occurring during August and September across the region.

In the event of a hurricane or other emergency, it is extremely important that critical response agencies and communities have access to communications in times of crisis and Digicel is committed to providing its fullest support to communities.

Digicel's primary concern is the safety and welfare of its customers and employees; and therefore wants to do everything possible to help ensure they are fully prepared for expected hurricanes.

The company partners with the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Response Agency (CDERA) and offer support through the facilitation of SMS alerts and donation of phones and air time.

To its customers, Digicel provides hurricane alerts, tracking maps, supplies and public safety information.
